Social Media: Idiosyncrasies and Iconoclasts
With Daniel Chesney
Description:
Our media landscape changes. The very institutions that once supplanted the radio and print media are now finding themselves embattled with the newest wave of mass communication: Social media. In this, the latest of historic changes to human communication, cadres all across the globe find themselves in a carnival hall of mirrors distorting and presenting dazzling takes on information nearly specific to their age bracket, demographic, and political orientation. Presentations of this specificity prey on our hopes, our fears, and our unconscious desires, playing out the tension between these such that we are pulled from outrage to complacency and, as often as not, eventually consume this media for the sake of consuming. The doom scroll. So it is that we find reprehensible the once understood and confusing the once commonplace.

Daniel’s journey into Systems Change began on a train ride from Eugene to Seattle—a single conversation that opened the door to PROUT. Driven by a conviction that today’s fast-paced, socially segmented world is starved for community, he believes that only a remodeling of our physical and sociological landscapes can ground us. He is a Musician, Painter, and lover of Stories.
Ever seeking resonance—Daniel continues his search for opportunities to contribute in service of more empathetic and understanding futures.
