Thoughts On Sustainable Economic Growth In A Mature Prout Society
With Dr. John Gross, Ph.D.
aka Jagatbandhu
Abstract: To date, capitalism has been the only economic system that reliably produces economic growth. We argue that a mature Prout society can produce growth at levels far beyond those ever imagined by even the most successful capitalist economy in any prior period of history. We contend that Prout can achieve these levels of growth without sacrificing human rights and dignity, without contributing to planetary destruction and without incurring the costs both explicit and implicit inherent in capitalist growth. We do not take the view that such a mature Prout society will be a utopia free of difficulties and struggles.
Jagatbandhu, knew he was a Proutist as soon as he became aware of Prout in the mid-1970s, and has been active promoting Prout and developing Prout theory ever since. He realized his understanding of economics was lacking so he entered the Ph.D. economics program at the University of Michigan. He received his Ph.D. in 1988 specializing in Public Economics and Econometrics, though since then he has also done work in applied microeconomics. He has taught economics at every level from principles to Ph.D. courses and has supervised doctoral dissertations. He has taught at: The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; The University of Wisconsin-Madison; Marquette University; Duke University: and, The University of Michigan. He has published papers (mainstream economics) in elite journals and served as a referee for such journals.
He has met and worked with several well-known economists. Nothing in his experience has changed his view that no economist, social scientist or thinker in any field compares with P.R. Sarkar/Shrii Shrii Anandamurti. For this reason, he still marvels at and struggles to understand Prout. Recently Jagatbandhu and other long-time Proutists facilitated Deep Prout, a long-term project in which they strived to ostensibly help others study Prout in some depth and consider how Prout might approach some difficult problems. In truth, the facilitators learned at least as much as the students and found it a deeply rewarding experience. Along with those colleagues, he hopes to begin a second, improved version of Deep Prout soon.
