How I Learned to Stop Worrying

and Love the Climate Crisis:

Community Driven Recovery

and Transition (CDRT)

with Alberta Pedroja, PhD

Dr Pedroja spent over 30 years in systems design and performance improvement.  A change management professional schooled in organizational development, she now works with non-profit organizations to assist them with the implementation of their vision and mission.  Prior to her work in the non-profit sector, she helped dozens of hospitals reduce costs without eroding the quality of care.  Her doctorate in Applied Statistics prepared her to produce ground-breaking work in non-linear models, more commonly known as tipping points.  She is best known for her work in patient safety by developing a mathematical model to predict the point at which the likelihood of making a medical mistake increases precipitously.  She is a committed practitioner of meditation and yoga for over 50 years.  She shares her expertise and expereience so that everyone from administrators to front line staff may understand the nature of systems change and what is needed to prepare for it.

While the Climate Crisis has given us much to worry about, it brings with it opportunities for systems change.  Dr Pedroja has real world experience in systems change in healthcare.  She has taken this knowledge, and along with her team in Lane County, Oregon, created a tabletop exercise that has inspired many in the progressive community both in and beyond Eugene.  The exercise is called Community-Driven Recovery and Transition (CDRT).  Based on the research cited in "Humankind: A Hopeful History" by Rutger Bregman and elsewhere, she will take you through the journey from systems change at a theoretical level to community engagement in the process to help prepare for the coming transition.
